Re: Buffy: Season 8 - Comic Discussion
Ooh, I love it so much! I'd much rather see it in TV form, but the comics are great because you can go to other countries and have giant people without it being stupid. Comics make everything possible. I really loved The Chain, but the first Wolves at the Gate was great, too. Buffy and Satsu... who knew? I was so surprised.

I *loved* The Chain too... so many people did not like it at all, but I loved the message behind it.

Re: Buffy: Season 8 - Comic Discussion
The Buffy comic has more than surpassed my expectations. Of course, all the Joss-written issues were tops, and i was a bit worried when the first issue came around that he wasn't going to be writing. How stupid of me! Drew Goddard handled it with ease. You could have mistaken his debut issue for a Joss issue! However, i must say that the latest issue i read, #13, was really quite weak (the first time i've thought this), and i'm hoping it is much better next month. It's great, because i can see these going on for a long, long time.

I want to see more reactions to Buffy/Satsu- what are all the other slayers thinking? (Faith especially of course!)

Re: Buffy: Season 8 - Comic Discussion
I have to say that I've really like the comics so far. They've taken the show I loved and given it a big budget feel. Without the constraints of money the writers can truly let their imaginations go wild, and the artists have done a great job of translating that to the page.

You're totally right, the best part of the comics has to be the amazing freedom they now have- imagine how much a giant Dawn would cost!

Yeah, or how crappy it would look without the proper budget.

Re: Buffy: Season 8 - Comic Discussion
i've really enjoyed the comics, its great to get Buffy back in some form even if we no longer have the tv show. However, i wasn't so sure about the buffy/satsu storyline. It seemed so meaningless and completely unlike what i would have expected in the show, i couldn't imagine the characters behacing that way... i'd like to know other peoples opinions as they may change my mind but at the minute i'm not really sure what to make of it.

I haven't been able to keep up with the lastest issues, but how happy was I that the Doctor and Rose made a cameo in Issue 6?

Re: Buffy: Season 8 - Comic Discussion
I'm pleased that the 'shock' in the last comic wasn't with poor Satsu- that would have been the last nail in the coffin of Buffy's love life!

Re: Buffy: Season 8 - Comic Discussion
Yes, I am happy that it wasn't Satsu either. I really like that girl. Plus, it would add more flames to the "The Buffyverse hates/kills all gay characters!" theory.

 Buffy Season Eight
Does anyone read it? For those of you who don't know, it's Joss Whedon's official canon to the Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV series, in the form of comic books. I admit that I was rather sceptical about the whole comic book thing myself (I've never touched one in my entire life up until Buffy Season Eight), but after watching the entire series for the third time on DVD, I just had to know what happens next. It's surprisingly good - a lot better than you'd think, particularly if you're not a fan of comic books. The plots are great, the characters are still the ones we know and love with Joss Whedon's clever writing, and the artwork is great. The characters aren't really designed to be the actors, just the characters. I have to admit that there were a few times when I just squinted at the blonde on the page and said to myself 'that does NOT look like Buffy', but when you get past that, it's really great. The cover art is really great, too. A different style to what you find inside. A sample of the very first comic in the series:

Re: Buffy: Season 8 - Comic Discussion
Xander is probably the only character who actually looks better in comic book form... actually, Giles looks good too... I'm not sure why it goes slightly wrong when it comes to the girls from the show. The original slayers look great though.

Re: Buffy: Season 8 - Comic Discussion
The first five issues have already been swept up into a trade paperback, the next five are going to be in June, but we'd have to wait until it's run it's full course before we see it all collected in a graphic novel.

Re: Buffy: Season 8 - Comic Discussion
How have I not posted here yet? I love the comics. But I must admit I don't think of them as canon (even though Joss says they are! *apologizes for blasphemy* ). I just don't like the idea of the most brilliant television world ever, with all the actors we knew and loved, being reduced to a two-dimensional comic-book world, no matter how cool and well-written it is--especially when I don't really like what's happening in that world, which has happened a couple times. I feel like "Chosen" was an epic, fitting end for Buffy, and the comics are just for fun. That said, I do adore them for the most part. I thought "The Chain" was beautiful, and the latest issue was a shocker, but my favorite thing so far was the Faith arc. I'm sorry Genevieve didn't stick around longer--I was becoming a Gigi/Faith 'shipper. I just love post-jail Faith (in the show AND the comics), redeemed but still all hardened and sarcastic and isolated, and I really like the idea of Faith and Giles working together and sort of parting ways from Buffy. Very edgy. As for Buffy/Satsu, I don't like it. I have nothing against Satsu, but it seems like there's almost nothing for her, either--she's barely been developed, and the relationship even less so. Usually, underdeveloped characters and relationships are the last thing I have to complain about in a Joss world (and the number-one reason I'm so addicted to his worlds), so I'm kind of disappointed in that whole arc.

Re: Buffy: Season 8 - Comic Discussion
I love how gay the comics are; Faith/Gigi, Buffy/Satsu, Xander/Dracula, Andrew and... himself The only one without any kind of slashiness happening seems to be Willow! I think the worst part of the comics is seeing how Faith has so easily reverted back to some of her old ways. She was starting to get on with other people and be more open at the end of s7 but now it looks like she's back to being a loner... a schizophrenic loner at that! I want happy Faith! x
